Effect of Reinforcements In Education & Generalization Strategies

Develop a chart that lists, defines, and describes three examples of prompts, reinforcements, and generalizations.

Write a 500-750-word essay discussing how prompts and reinforcements can be used to teach a new skill. Include how generalization strategies can be used within the classroom.

Cite at least three scholarly resources within your essay. Submit both the chart and the essay to your instructor.

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

These are some of the examples of prompts that I use in my classroom. My students are middle school and do have sensory issues with people touching them so I rarely use a full physical propmpt; I have however created a trusting relationship with my students and I can do a partial physical prompt with a few of my students.

Gestural prompt- Pointing to the bookshelf and asking the student to put the book back on the shelf

Verbal prompt- Teacher saying “Please get your math textbook and turn to chapter 3

Visual prompt- Daily schedule posted in several spots for the students to see

Partial physical prompt- When the student is writing on the white board I would support their arm when trying to write in a straight line

Full physical prompt- Using hand-over-hand when a student is drawing a shape on the white board so they can understand how to properly draw the shape and follow the lines

Model prompt- Showing the students how to fold paper and cut out a heart/snowflake with a pair of scissors
