I just complete a task at my organization on a team that was more self-directed. We were from different departments within the city and were tasked with coming together and solving a larger problem. We did this by breaking it down and looking at the smaller problems that led to the larger scale problem. We could each fix the problems that pertained to our departments and this eventually will hopefully lead to the large problem being fixed. We used some virtual aspects, but primarily only for communication purposes and to send data as needed.I feel like some of the meetings, we would have been more productive as a virtual team. If we were able to send out directives over some form of electronic communication (email), we would have been able to find the information we were asked and come together at a later time in order to have a more productive meeting as a self-directed team.
