Good day Professor and Classmates,

Strategic plans set the business apart from their competitors. When a company is in the process of creating a strategic plan, it must identify types of metrics. This discussion asks to provide two metrics that businesses should consider, and I have chosen customers and technology. Customers are always changing. It’s essential to understand and know what customers are looking for and where they’re coming from. You can do this in many different ways, but the easiest is conducting polls on social media or just asking the question when they’re on site. The last metric I choose was technology. With the advancement of technology happening at the cyclic rate, it’s important to leverage that and use it to advantage before competitors use it against you.

When the strategic plan is conducted by company leadership, they have to understand and develop the plan and ensure it’s easy to understand. Most company leadership develop the plan, but the lowest implements the plan. Leaders must ensure all parties involve grasp and understand the change and why it’s happening.

I do implement change with other senior leaders in the shop I currently work in. We usually develop quite of few ways to before making a change, and we also engage our lower rank staff. What this does is it lets them offer their perspective on what difference we are trying to make and lets us know the negative or positive impact it will have.

The essential two topics that should be part of metrics in any organization is safety and equal opportunity climate. It is crucial to track safety-related incidents because it involves well-being members of the organization and find a solution or manage how to prevent it from happening that save them precious human resources. It is also a vital part of metrics is the equal opportunity climate in the workplace. An organization who manage the fair treatment of its employees can gain more from them. They are more motivated and perform their task more effectively, “What gets measured gets managed” (Abraham, 2012, Chapter 9).

“The criteria you ultimately use in your analysis must fit the organization you are analyzing” (Abraham, 2012, Chapter 7). There are different criteria in a different organization they use to generate effective strategic planning to reach their goal and objective. Leaders should pay close attention to what essential things for the organization to achieve. If a leader has this critical information in mind, the team can then make the most effective strategic plan available to them, to be successful in business.

My current organization can benefit from this process. Safety is one of those criteria that my current organization needs to pay attention to. Most of the team member is getting hurt because not having proper tools to move around heavy furniture and appliances. Using this process, top management can constantly monitor what is wrong in our operation and find a way to mitigate it. By having this information my current organization can generate an effective and efficient strategic plan to make the working environment process better by preventing injuries.

Conduct an internet search to find an organization that lists its mission and vision statement on its website. What do the mission and vision statements communicate?

In conducting an internet search, HD Supply was an organization that had both their vision and mission statements listed on their website. Their mission is to service a variety of customers for their maintenance and repair needs. Their vision is to become an ideally green company that focuses on their customer’s businesses by helping them to become the best in their industry, while also considering the environment. Each statement communicates the organization wants to be the best as well as pass on the greatness to their customers.

How might the organization use mission and vision statements when establishing goals for the organization?

In establishing goals for the associates that are employed with HD Supply, they can implement some simple core competency goals that focus on providing superior customer service. If the company strives to the best in their industry, as well as help their customers to be the best, their employees need to match the same level of enthusiasm in how they support and run the business. With an added focus on providing environmentally safe material, they can invest in a marketing strategy that focuses on this initiative. The more educated customers are on green product, the more likely they are to convert. Providing the same training to sales representatives and operations associates can also help in supporting customers.

How might this process impact operational planning and the establishment of metrics?

Establishing metrics is an essential tool for companies to use in terms of assessing how the company is performing and identifying areas that are in need of improvement (Abraham, 2012). To establish metrics that align with their vision and mission, they need to first decide on a specific goal or number they want to achieve or reach. Upon deciding the sales goals specific to the green initiative, they should include it in each associate’s individual business goals to establish accountability in reaching the company’s mission and vision.

Good day Professor and Classmates,

When asked to find a mission statement on a business’s website, I thought it was going to be easy, but it was a lot more researching then I thought. The company that I found is Starbucks. Their mission statement is the following: To inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time and their vision statement is to establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles while we grow. The biggest thing that stood out to me was Starbucks is trying to connect on a personal level, and they also want to grow their business and take over the coffee industry. As an example, I’m in Okinawa Japan right now and within a 10-mile radius theirs ten stores. Both their mission and vision statement speaks on growth, and that’s one of their many focuses. With this type of goal, they must continue to enhance their distribution chain and continue researching types of products that will sell due to a wide range of demographics.
